Before your appointment, you'll attend a full sedation assessment. Dr Hannah Wilson, our highly experienced sedation provider, will take a complete medical history and explain the entire process in detail, ensuring you feel informed and confident.
- Avoid alcohol for 24 hours before your appointment.
- Continue taking any prescribed medication unless advised otherwise.
- Have a light meal two hours before treatment, then avoid eating or drinking until after your appointment.
- Be accompanied by a responsible adult who can stay with you at the clinic and help you home.
- Travel by car or taxi only — public transport is not permitted following sedation.
A small cannula is placed in your hand or arm, and Midazolam is administered to help you feel relaxed and sleepy. Throughout the procedure, your pulse, oxygen levels, and blood pressure are continuously monitored. Our sedation team ensures your comfort while your dental treatment is carried out.
Local anaesthetic is still used to ensure you feel no discomfort during treatment. This is administered after you are sedated, so you remain completely unaware of it.
After treatment, it's normal to feel drowsy, disoriented, or forgetful for several hours as the sedation wears off.
For the next 24 hours:
- Do not drive, cycle or operate machinery.
- Avoid alcohol and important decisions.
- Rest at home under the supervision of your accompanying adult.
